La fantastica storia di un settore della Tetide mediterranea che per 180 milioni di anni si è evoluta da ambienti marini pericontinentali di acque basse ad un oceano con andamento equatoriale, per poi richiudersi consentendo alle migliaia di metri di rocce sedimentarie che ne costituivano i fondali di trasformarsi nelle montagne che oggi ammiriamo.

Di questa lunga storia noi qui racconteremo i primi 70 milioni di anni, dal Giurassico inferiore (Hettangiano) al Cretacico Inferiore (Barremiano). Nell'epica narrazione, richiamata dal titolo, ci avvarremo del contributo di decine di Geologi e Paleontologi i quali, dalla seconda metà dell'Ottocento ad oggi, ne hanno "intimamente" descritto i caratteri strutturali, deposizionali paleontologici e ambientali.
 

The fantastic history of a sector of the Mediterranean Tethys that for 180 million years has evolved from pericontinental marine environments of shallow waters to an ocean with an equatorial trend, and then closed allowing the thousands of meters of sedimentary rocks that constituted the seabed to turn into the mountains that we admire today.

Of this long history we will tell here the first 70 million years, from the Early Jurassic (Hettangian) to the Lower Cretaceous (Barremian). In the epic narration, recalled by the title, we will make use of the contribution of dozens of Geologists and Paleontologists who, from the second half of the nineteenth century to today, have intimately described its structural, paleontological and environmental characteristics.
